Building a Foundation

of confidence, self-reliance, and togetherness, through music;
where parents meet children in practice, performance, and play!

The Brazos Valley Youth

String Chamber Orchestra

When learning anything new, but especially when learning how to play an instrument, support is key. The Brazos Valley Youth String Orchestra is offering a unique opportunity for guardians and children to bond while learning a string instrument in a shared experience together. Our program will focus on teaching, guiding, and supporting youth that are underrepresented and economically disadvantaged by giving full scholarships to all participants.

With 9 guardian and child units, our orchestra will bond all 18 participants together with a common goal of learning a new string instrument. Each family unit will be assigned a thirty minute private lesson during the week and then asked to participate in an hour group orchestra rehearsal on Saturday mornings. While music will be practiced, Saturday rehearsals will be a safe space for all orchestra members to connect and build community. All participants will be supported by string instructors, other members of the orchestra, and best of all, your family unit as guardian and child.  Throughout this one year commitment, we will have group lessons, private lessons and concerts.

These shared experiences will foster confidence, self reliance, and celebrate diversity.  We believe that accountability is essential when learning a musical instrument.

 This program has built in that important piece because each guardian and child will be required to practice at home, together. Music is a powerful tool that unites us all. The bonding and connection that will occur within this family unit as a result of this program is special and powerful.  It is our hope that our participants will connect through this experience, form new friendships, and continue to learn and pursue the power of music that can enrich their lives. At Brazos Valley Youth String Chamber Orchestra, we desire to have the most diverse string chamber youth orchestra in the region to enhance and fortify strings in the BCS area.

Come join us on our exciting journey!

Mission Statement

Bringing the joy and excitement of learning a string instrument simultaneously to both child and guardian to create a diverse, and permanently supported youth orchestra in the Brazos Valley, thereby fostering confidence, self-reliance and community through classical music.

Vision

Our vision and goal is to establish the region's most diverse string chamber youth orchestra. We'll achieve this by strengthening the string section and ensuring a solid foundation for the orchestra. This involves providing weekly group lessons to both parent and child simultaneously, fostering a strong musical community.
